Our Committee

Chairman

Rebecca Allen

Rebecca first learnt to paddle aged 14 in Jersey (Channel Islands) as a sea kayaker. She's had a number of years off, but since moving to the Forest of Dean has reignited her love for the water. She thoroughly enjoys a chilled paddle with a good natter, and if you see her on the water she will happily chat away.  You'll currently find her trying to learn whitewater kayaking and build up her confidence to keep trying new things.

One of the best things about being a club member is the support and friendliness from all the members, be it giving tips when you're trying something new or just a friendly hello. The club trips are also great fun, and you'll find Rebecca and her husband bringing out the pizza oven to keep everyone well fed (in the summer).

Although she only joined the club in 2025, she hopes she can help get more people to try paddlesports and keep the club a happy and inclusive place. She loves talking to existing, new, and potential members, so if you have an idea for the club, how it could improve, things you love or would love to see just let her know.

Head Slalom Coach

Mike Mitchell

Mike is the Club Slalom coach and started in Slalom at 13 year Old. Apart from a few years away from the sport Mike has been involved with Slalom for most of his life.

He also loves White Water Kayaking and has recently paddled the Grand Canyon and an expedition in Nepal.

If you want to try Slalom maybe ones a week or paddle Seven days a week as a top athlete then Mike will be there for you.

We currently have such a strong squad of junior paddlers at Wyedean. Some of the best in the UK and possibly the world.

Treasurer

Simon Rolls

Simon joined the club in 2018. He started out in kayaking the same year when his two boys took it up at school.

They two kids decided to take up slalom when they joined the club as a family, and they’ve enjoyed all the club has had to offer since.

Health & Safety Officer

Membership Secretary

Phil Moses

Phil joined the club back in 2019 at the age of 60. Whilst he expects some to snigger “Blimey, that's a bit old a little bit late to enjoy all the aspects of Kayaking!”, he is confident that there is always be something happening at the club for him.

Since joining, he has taken on a huge amount of responsibility. Primarily, Health and Safety Officer, which covers all club activities from Thursday club night to any river trips. He also covers the role of Membership Secretary and editor of the monthly newsletter, Throwlines.

Committee member

Jeremy Stanton

Jeremy has been a member of the club for 19 years and has been chariman for 12 of those. He began paddling in 1977 with scouts, and remembers camping at Biblins campsite and running trips around there for years. He later returned to paddling in 2006 with his family.

His favourite part about being a member of the club is talking to other members on a club night, especially if they are new. He recognises it’s important to make sure everybody is happy with what’s going on at the club and has an opportunity to speak up if they want to talk.

Equipment Officer

Tracy Hughes

Tracy joined in 2011 withy her 2 sons. She began a novice but quickly got hooked, and quickly worked her way through the awards. She enjoys the winter white water trips in South Wales every year.
