About Us
Why join Wyedean Canoe Club?
We provide our members with a range of activities and a community of like minded paddlers who enjoy paddling together during club activities and on peer paddles and holidays too. We're based at Symonds Yat East, one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.
You can paddle all year round with us. Our local site on the River Wye has flat and moving water as well as grade 2 rapids to learn and practice white water skills or learn the amazing sport of Slalom. Our courses and community have enabled our members to go from complete beginners to highly trained slalom athletes, or simply gain confidence on moving and white water and to have the skills and confidence to paddle in all types of environments across the world.
We are an inclusive club and encourage and assist members to achieve their personal paddling goals. We offer the opportunity for paddlers of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and disabilities to safely enjoy paddlesports with qualified coaches.
Membership Benefits
Membership enables you to try different types of paddling from canoeing solo or tandem, kayaks (we have a variety to try), sea kayaks, stand up paddleboards (SUPs) or slalom. We have the safety equipment and skills to keep you safe on the water too. This is a great and cost effective way to have a great time and learn all about paddling in a stunning location.
On Thursday club nights during British Summer Time (April to October) our members benefit from free evening parking and boat launch at Wyedean Adventure Centre at Symonds Yat East HR9 6JL from 6pm. When you join, enter your car registration so your vehicle is logged on the system.
In the autumn and winter we run pool sessions on Saturdays and we also enjoy white water trips on the Wye, Usk and Dart etc.
Once you're a member, you can sign up to our courses, hire equipment, come on weekends away and you'll also receive our monthly newsletter "Throwlines" as well as join our friendly and chatty closed Facebook Group for club members.
Why not come down and meet us?
If you're still not sure, why not pop along to see us at the Wyedean Adventure Centre Car Park Symonds Yat East (HR9 6JL) on Thursdays at 6pm during British Summer Time April to October. If you're keen to have a go we'll try to get you on the water for a taster if there are enough of us about to help so wear some clothes to paddle in and a spare set to change into. You can always let us know beforehand using the contact us page. Please remember to pay for parking and launching – this can be card or cash.
Winter Pool Sessions
Every winter we give people the opportunity to get involved in kayaking in the warmth of the swimming pool, rather than just getting thrown in the deep end!
These sessions are perfect for those who want to learn to get comfortable on the water, practice their rolls, or to just develop skills
Our pool sessions are based in Monmouth, and are open to both members and non-members, so please get in contact if you’re interested in coming along!
